More than 20 years ago Polymer Engineering Paderborn started various research projects. Their aim is the development of different programs to design screw extruders. By an intensive and friendly support of the Förderverein and in cooperation with the leading industrial companies the programs listed below have originated. All of them are in their area the current status of research.

REX - Computer-Aided Extruder Design |
| REX is a program which simulates manufacturing processes on single screw extruders. The aim of the development is to ensure a fast and global evaluation of the machine behavior and thus to optimize barrel and screw configurations as well as process parameters. |

PSI - Paderborn Injection Molding Simulation |
| PSI is the counterpart to REX and it is used for designing but also for optimizing screws used in the injection molding process. In addition to different screw concepts also various shearing and mixing elements as well as non return valves are available. |

SIGMA - Simulation of Co-rotating Twin-screw Extruders |
| SIGMA is a program which simulates the preparation and the manufacturing processes on co-rotating twin-screw extruders. With the help of the development it is possible to evaluate the machine behavior fast and globally and thus to optimize the process. |
